It's not just about the singing!

Everyone in the choir loves to sing. There’s something truly special about creating great harmonies together and experiencing the power of dozens of voices.

But being part of the choir is about much more than singing. We’re a group of friends who enjoy each other’s company and share a great social life - where you can take part as much or as little as you wish.

Of course, we perform concerts and enter competitions, but we also enjoy singing in less formal settings - from pubs and supermarkets to community events and fundraising occasions. Every so often, we even embark on bigger adventures, with memorable tours to places such as Cornwall, Cork and Belgium.

In 2027, the Isle of Man beckons.

Why not come along and meet us? Join us at a concert or pop into a rehearsal. You’ll receive a warm welcome - and you might just discover that this is the choir you’ve been looking for, whether you're looking or not!

About Us

We're the Rossendale Male Voice Choir!

Formed in Rawtenstall (Lancashire) in 1924 by shoe factory worker Fred Tomlinson- they were ordinary chaps who went on to achieve extraordinary things. Like winning the International Eisteddfod in Llangollen an unprecedented four times. Three of them consecutively!

We still work hard to sing to a high standard, still enter competitions (like the Eskdale Festival, which we won this year) and still put on hugely entertaining shows, usually with a standing ovation at the end.

We also raise money for charities, collaborate with other choirs and brass bands, go on trips, have many, many social groups (golf, bikes, walking, that kind of thing) and perhaps most importantly are a real community. Somewhere where chaps can chat about chap stuff, make strong friendships and do something that's fun, challenging and worthwhile.

Our current shows take traditional concerts to a whole new level. Powerful male voice choir performance is at the heart of it of course, supported by a fully narrated storyline with an engaging video backdrop featuring both archive and contemporary film material.

Come and see us!

Our Honorary Patron, Catherine Bott.

Singer and broadcaster Catherine Bott has kindly agreed to be our Honorary Patron during our centenary year (and perhaps a little longer!).

Catherine studied at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London. After which she spent two years singing everything from Bach to Berio with the Swingles before beginning a distinguished solo career specialising in baroque music. Among her many recordings are Bach’s St. John Passion and Purcell’s Dido and Aeneas. She has also premiered and recorded works by contemporary composers Craig Armstrong, Jonathan Dove and Michael Nyman. She is a Fellow of the Guildhall School and an Honorary Fellow of Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance.

Catherine is a firm fan of the light orchestral music for which Ernest Tomlinson (son of our founder Fred and our MD for a while in the 80's) became famous. Producing a special Classic FM show in 2014 to celebrate Ernest's 90th birthday and another in 2024 for what would have been his 100th.

You can get more information on each of these broadcasts here and here.

And yes, Catherine is still with us!
