Saturday evening brought another new performance space for the choir at the fantastic St Joseph's Catholic Club in Chorley.

This cabaret concert was supported by an appreciative audience including many of our extended choir family to whom we are always so proud to perform for.

This relaxed concert included many of our favourite pieces and included the beautiful Morte Cristie, during which members of the audience who knew the piece were invited to join the choir on stage, including members of Parkside Colliery Male Voice Choir.

The concert featured a number of soloists evidencing the breadth of skill within the choir.

For his first solo with the choir, Second Tenor Phil Lynas gave us the haunting “Bring Him Home” from Les Misérables.

Top Tenor Charles Crowley performed “Homeless” by Paul Simon & Ladysmith Black Mambazo which featured on the landmark album Graceland and blends English lyrics with traditional Zulu “isicathimiya” choral harmonies.

Baritone Chris Calvert gave us the beautiful “I Am a Poor Wayfaring Stranger” which featured in the recent film 1917.

A special mention to our accompanist Liz Baker for another incredible piece with piano which had the whole room in stitches with the perfect “The Bull fighter” by Bettie Fields the sister of Gracie Fields.

Accompanying a number of pieces was again Bass and Flautist Matthew Evans adding a rich depth of sound once again.

Preparation for all our performances takes hard work and dedication so we thank again our Musical Director Matthew Thomas supported by our accompanist Liz Baker.

Performing in the range of locations to get the sound just right takes a skill and we thank again our technical team of Bass Peter Ormerod and Baritone Paul Heaton.

Thanks again go to Baritone and Stage Manager Peter Beetham for making sure we all arrive appropriately dressed and looking our best for the performance.

At all our concerts we have a selection of memorabilia for sale and we thank Baritone Andy Owens for his hard work last night.

To our Events Team thanks for all your hard work for scouting out this perfect performance space with, I think we would agree, a spot on acoustic.

We once again thank you to our audience for your support; our joy of singing together as a choir is only matched by your support.

Matthew hinted at what we have planned for 2027, its all a bit hush hush at the moment so stay close to our social media for some teasers and updates soon.

Our next appearance will be in around Rawtenstall town centre on Friday 9th October between 18:00 and 20:00 hrs, stay close to our socials for updates.
